Female wrestling has a new (Jewish) face; or at least, a new Netflix show about female wrestling does.

Alison Brie, the Mad Men and Community star, plays Ruth Wilder, a struggling actress in 1980’s Los Angeles, who along with 11 other women is invited to audition for GLOW – the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. The comedy series is based loosely on the syndicated professional wrestling circuit of the same name.

Netflix released its official trailer for the series this week; the entire first season of GLOW will be available to screen on the platform from June 23.

Ms Brie was born in California; in an interview with the Jewish Telegraph Agency in 2013, said: “My mother, God love her, is a very proud Jew and would always make sure we knew we were Jewish”. In March of this year she married fellow actor Dave Franco, who is also Jewish.
