Trevor Leonard puts his political views into poetry

articlemain

Political poet Trevor Leonard will be appearing at Speaker’s Corner in London on Sunday.

Speakers’ Corner is an area in Hyde Park where crowds gather to hear all sorts of people sound off about all sorts of subjects. Mr Leonard, 65, tells People: “I like to think my work is political and I like to think it’s optimistic.” His work contains personal views about the development of society, Israel-Palestine, the accessibility of language and vegetarianism. “I also have a hobby horse about Shakespeare. I put forward the idea that Shakespeare wasn’t the real writer.” Newcastle-based Mr Leonard has been writing poetry since he was 22 after deliberately failing his law exams. “I wanted to devote my life to writing.”

Mr Leonard will be at Speaker’s Corner, Hyde Park, at 1pm.
