Natan Rifkin snaps up an arty role at the Jewish Music Institute’s KlezFest

articlemain

FILM-MAKER and animator Natan Rifkin has been appointed Artist in Residence at the Jewish Music Institute’s KlezFest summer school at SOAS, University of London.

He will join hundreds of musicians, singers and dancers, who will learn and sing Yiddish, play klezmer and dance. Mr Rifkin, 21, also a keen photographer and illustrator, takes his sketch book and camera everywhere. He tells People: “At KlezFest I can dip into classes as a fly on the wall. My brief is to come up with a series of mixed media images both as a record and for future use.

“What I love is absorbing the life and movement around me and finding new ways of portraying the moment, and I enjoy the challenge of working with live performers.”

Mr Rifkin is doing an animation degree at London College of Communication, runs the University of the Arts London’s life drawing society and has been working with producer Elliott Tucker to run film-making workshops for secondary schools at the Movieum in Waterloo.
