Jacob Colton turns penny sweets into pounds

articlemain

Businessman Jacob Colton loves sweets. So much so that he has devoted his latest venture to them.

Mr Colton is the co-founder of Posh Pick and Mix, an online gift service which delivers old-fashioned penny sweets in a personalised jar. Launched in February, the company was recently given the best new website award by technology magazine Web User.

Web developer Mr Colton, 25, tells People: "Last year we were looking for Chanucah and Christmas gifts to send people. We thought sending pick and mix sweets would be a good idea but couldn't find anything around, so my friend Lee and I thought we would do it." He adds: "Woolworths has closed down but people still want to do pick and mix and this gives people the ability to do so in a posher way than in a paper bag." The premise is simple: select your jar size, pick (and mix) your sweets and personalise the label with a message. It is then gift wrapped and sent to the recipient. The service stocks more than 40 different varieties and the duo are continuously adding new lines. The customers are encouraged to submit their ideas for future ranges. What are the most popular sweets? "Love hearts and some of the classics; fried eggs, gobstoppers, mini wham bars and friendship rings."

And Mr Colton's preferred choice? "I am not a fan of rum and raisin fudge but I am a big fizzy cola bottle man." Let's hope he knows a good dentist.
