Dawn Shindler helps you quit smoking on national TV

articlemain

Ardent television viewers among you may recognise this woman.

Dawn Shindler is the star of the Pfizer life "Quit with help" advert, aimed at smokers. Ms Shindler, a smoker for more than 20 years - between 15 and 20 a day - gave up two years ago.

She spends the 30-second advert telling her story. The travel agent tells People: "I gave up when I was expecting my first grandchild.

"My son, who is very anti-smoking, said that if I didn't quit I couldn't come anywhere near the baby. So I went to my GP, who gave me some tablets for three months. I had unsuccessfully tried to use patches before but this time it worked. My friends can't believe that I've actually done it."

Pfizer life, part of leading pharmaceutical firm Pfizer, aims to inform people on how to live healthily. They advertised for female ex-smokers to take part in the advert and Ms Shindler was chosen.

She says: "It's very weird seeing myself on television and lots of people I know, including those I went to school with, have since contacted me.

"I also feel a bit like a counsellor as people are now asking me for advice. I say that if you can't quit by yourself then go to your GP."
