David Cohen is bringing the Bible to a screen near you

articlemain

Producer David Cohen has helped create a unique DVD version of the Bible.

The Four Gospels — a box-set of four DVDs — features the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John (English Standard Version), which are read by more than 300 narrators in 74 hours.

Mr Cohen, 60, from the East End of London and a veteran documentary-maker, filmed the readings. He tells People: “I thought it was such an unusual event that it should be filmed — live. We worked through the night, with many cups of coffee and people stumbling over names.

“It brings the Bible to life and will appeal to Jews, Christians and people of all faiths.” The DVDs feature biblical scenery filmed in places such as Mount Ararat, Jerusalem, Damascus, the Sea of Galilee, the Nile River, the Sinai desert, King Solomon’s mines, Gaza, the Jordon River, the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, Nazareth and the Mount of Olives.

Mr Cohen’s previous credits include Our Daughter Holly, a documentary about the Soham murder, which was nominated for the Best Current Affairs film at the 2005 Baftas.

He says: “The Four Gospels is completely different to anything I have ever done. It came about because by neighbour asked me to help with the Bible-reading and I thought it seemed foolish not to record it.
