Daniella Baron Cohen exhibition

articlemain

What a family. Photographer Daniella Baron Cohen, the mother of superstar comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, has another exhibition — this time in north London.

Mrs Baron Cohen has hosted nine exhibitions in Israel — at the World Museum in Park Leumi, Ramat Gan and, more recently, in Ramat Aviv. Her work is now at the London Jewish Cultural Centre (LJCC) in Golders Green. Called Leaves, the collection features an assortment of colourful images of windswept autumn leaves, taken close to her home near Hampstead Heath.

“I crave colour,” Mrs Baron Cohen tells People. “I was born in Israel, now live in England, and I pine for light. I miss Israel’s light and energy.” She adds: “When the days are fine here [England], the light can really lift your mood.”

A photography student at the LJCC, Mrs Baron Cohen studied English literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem before working with cellist Pablo Casals and violinist Isaac Stern at the opening of the Amphitheatre in Caesarea, where she developed her love for music and colour. She has spent the past decade practising as a photographer. Her pictures hang in five continents, including at the late Queen Mother’s residence at St James’s Palace.

Married to Gerald, Mrs Baron Cohen has three sons; Erran, a musician; Amnon; and Sacha, who is engaged to Australian actress Isla Fisher.

And what did she make of her soon-to-be daughter-in-law’s recent movie Confessions Of A Shopaholic? “I thought it was great.”
