Aviation lawyer Carl Nelkin has released an album to ensure we never forget the Holocaust.

Mr Nelkin, 47, also a part-time chazan, wanted to do something to mark this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, which takes place on Tuesday. The album, The Little Trees are Weeping — Songs of the Holocaust and Resistance, is a collection of songs from the ghettos and Jewish partisan groups during the Holocaust. He has been studying the Shoah for 20 years. “I found that the more you read about the Holocaust, the more you get desensitised to it,” he tells People. “And that unless you delve into the reality of what happened to individuals, you can’t really understand.

“There was a lot of music written during the Holocaust that we never hear today. I wanted to bring this back to life and make sure it doesn’t die out.”

Based in Ireland, Mr Nelkin, who is also the JC’s Dublin correspondent, has produced a booklet to explain the song’s Yiddish translations.
