He is the well-to-do Tory MP famed for taking his children's nanny with him on the campaign trail and for paying boys to clean his shoes while at Eton.

But Jacob Rees-Mogg has revealed there is one place in the world where his sense privilege failed to impress.

In an interview, Mr Rees-Mogg told The Times that he never lifts a finger at home. But his earliest memory, of a family holiday to Israel at the age of three, still haunts him.

"I asked to be carried [by the nanny] and the taxi driver said, 'In Israel, we make them walk,'" he recalled. "So I did not like him at all."
