New restrictions put stop to garden minyanim in London

Tighter regulations came into force in the capital on Wednesday

articlemain

Garden minyanim will again have to stop in London after the capital moved into tier-three restrictions on Wednesday.

Under tier-two rules, it was possible for neighbours with adjoining gardens or forecourts to have a service, with six people from different households in each garden.

But in tier three, groups of up to six people may meet only in public places such as parks but not on private premises.

There is nothing in the rules, however, that would prevent forming a minyan in a street as long as only people from the same household stayed in their front garden.

Although wedding ceremonies may continue with up to 15 people present, receptions are banned in tier three.

Places of worship remain open for collective prayer with no cap on attendance as long as social distancing is strictly maintained.
