Links between the Conservative Party and the Anglo-Jewish community were further strengthened this week as two senior Tories joined the Jewish Leadership Council.
Howard Leigh and Stanley Fink, who both act as party treasurers, have become individually nominated members of the JLC.
Two weeks ago, the JC reported how Tory leader David Cameron appeared at four different communal events in a week.
One JLC member, who did not want to be identified, said: “The JLC is not a political organisation. However, this move helps position the community, if and when there is any change in government.”
JLC chief executive Jeremy Newmark said: “The constitution of the JLC ensures that the majority of members will always be from organisations rather than individuals.”
Another change announced this week was the appointment of Mick Davis, chair of UJIA, as chairman of the JLC’s executive committee, the first time it has been given its own chair.
He will oversee both the expansion of its strategic plans and major projects.
Michelle Vogel, the president of Wizo UK, Britain’s biggest Jewish women’s organisation, has also joined the JLC.
