Victims of Paris supermarket attack buried in Jerusalem

articlemain

The four Jews who were killed in the attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris were buried in Jerusalem today.

The funeral of Yoav Hattab, Philippe Braham, Yohan Cohen and Francois-Michel Saada took place at the Har Hamenuchot cemetery, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu and President Rivlin in attendance.

Relatives of the victims read kaddish and lit candles in their memory.

Mr Netanyahu said that the four had been “murdered solely for being Jewish".

He added: “I believe that Jews know deep in their hearts that they have one country – the state of Israel, the historic birthplace that will accept them with open arms. Now more than ever Israel is the real, genuine home for all of us."

President Rivlin described the attack as: “Pure, venomous evil. This is sheer hatred of Jews; abhorrent, dark and premeditated, which seeks to strike, wherever there is Jewish life.”

The victims were killed after they were taken hostage last Friday by terrorist Amedy Coulibaly at the Hyper Cacher supermarket in eastern Paris.

Coulibaly was shot dead by police. His partner, Hayat Boumeddiene, is believed to have escaped to Syria, and other members of their terror cell are being hunted by police.
