UK envoy planning float for Tel Aviv Gay Pride

Britain’s first openly gay ambassador to Israel, David Quarrey, and his partner, Aldo Henrique, star in a new video inviting people to join their family-friendly float in this year’s Tel Aviv Gay Pride festival.

Mr Quarrey, who took up his post in July 2015, has embraced Israel’s cultural diversity with enthusiasm and taken full advantage of the tolerant atmosphere enjoyed by the gay community in Tel Aviv.

Aware that gay couples are increasingly choosing to have children, the ambassador and his partner have picked a family theme for the British float in the annual Pride parade in Tel Aviv on June 9.

Their float, designed to look like a giant ship, will be easy for bystanders to scramble onto — and has been given the last place in the parade, possibly because some less child-friendly marchers will be up front.

In their video, Mr Quarrey and Mr Henrique welcome everyone to their float, which has been sponsored by the Dan Hotels chain. “We are particularly focusing on LGBT families and would like you to march with us in our family-friendly float,” says Mr Henrique.
