Jerusalem is one of those cities where we all become great photographers. From spice stalls in the Arab quarter to barmitvahs at the Western Wall and candles at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, not to mention multi-generational family gatherings or your kids playing in a fountain - the urge to capture the many faces of the city is irresistible.
Now it’s time to fire up that old hard drive and submit your best images of the city, from any era, on any subject, to an international photo competition, JerusaLENS. Prize money of $10,000 (£8,000) is available, to be split between four winners.
“Jerusalem tells the story of the world,” said President Reuven Rivlin, calling particularly for photos “with a message of unity, which gives personal and emotional expression to our common denominator called Jerusalem”.
The aim behind the competition is to gather as many photos of the city as possible, with a goal of at least 50,000.
Submissions close next Tuesday (February 28), after which people are invited to vote for their favourite photograph from those submitted. The top 100 images will be exhibited in Jerusalem later in the year.
