Hague on Israel: Time is running out

articlemain

William Hague has warned that "time is running out" to find a solution to the conflict in the Middle East.

The Foreign Secretary, addressing the Conservative Party conference, said Britain wanted to see Jerusalem as a shared capital.

Urging the Israelis and the Palestinians to return to negotiations, he said: "We will work for a secure Israel living alongside a Palestinian state with 1967 borders with agreed land swaps, a fair settlement for refugees and Jerusalem as the shared capital of both states.

"Time is running out for the two-state solution."

In his speech Mr Hague also criticised the decision to release the man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing two years ago, and vowed to "redouble our efforts to work with other nations to increase the pressure on the [Syrian] regime."
