A Jewish student has died after going missing, his family have said.

Daniel Mervis, from Finchley, North London, was reported missing on October 26, but had passed away in the early hours of October 25.

His family and friends announced his death the following Tuesday.

At the time of his death, he was studying physics at University College London, and had previously attended JFS.

His parents, Hilton and Vivienne, described Daniel as a “gentle and kind” man, who was also a champion weightlifter, vegan activist, animal-lover and member of Finchley United Synagogue (Kinloss).

James Cooper, a friend of Daniel’s, described him as “the smartest, kindest person I have ever known”, and “more than just a friend”.

He wrote on Facebook: “At the moment I just feel complete emptiness and I can’t imagine what his parents are going through.

“I will love you forever Daniel and will have a piece of my heart missing that I’ll never get back.”

Daniel’s funeral will take place at Bushey New Cemetery on Sunday.

He is survived by his parents, Hilton and Vivienne, sisters and boyfriend Ethan.
