Arsenal and England striker turned TV pundit Ian Wright offered his take on the Sam Allardyce situation when he addressed Wednesday's Maccabi London Brady lunch in central London.
Quizzed about the Daily Telegraph sting which resulted in Allardyce's departure as England manager, Wright said: "I feel for Sam but he's been greedy, stupid and found himself in a ridiculous situation. I'm pleased he was outed.
"In reality, he got the England job by default. I wanted Glenn Hoddle to get the post after Roy Hodgson departed but he was overlooked by the FA.
"He'll be living a nightmare for the rest of his life. He had an unbelievable opportunity and messed it all up."
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, Ronnie Rosenthal and former Crystal Palace manager Alan Smith were also among the guests at the lunch, raising funds towards the upkeep and future development of facilities at the Maccabi London Brady's Rowley Lane home.
