A fund supporting youth activity has been launched at North West Surrey Synagogue in memory of popular congregant Gill Schuman, who died of breast cancer at the age of 47.
Mrs Schuman’s 16-year-old son Laurence was among the speakers at the opening Gill’s Fund event, telling the audience of around 200 people of the importance of involvement in groups such as Reform Synagogue Youth. “My experience at RSY has been incredible,” he said. “Everyone deserves to have the same amazing experience and I am very proud that this fund has been established to help other people do so.”
The idea for the fund came from NWSS member Penni Rochman, a close friend of Mrs Schuman. The launch event raised £2,500.
