Tee time to raise funds

articlemain

Manchester Grammar School sixth-former Ben Sciama has raised £31,000 for local breast cancer charity Genesis by organising a golf day at the Dunham Forest club.

Eighty-four people competed and a further 90 attended the post-round dinner.

Ben "first heard about the Genesis charity [based at Wythenshawe Hospital] in 2013 and was encouraged by the amazing work that it does in the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.

"With such high rates of incidence, I recognised that most people at some point will be touched by the disease. I felt very strongly that I should do something to support Genesis."

The 17-year-old - who is studying French, history, maths and politics at A-level - attracted support from friends and family, through promotion at the golf club and through social media.

Manchester Grammar head of charities Garreth Tinker said: "We are incredibly proud of Ben's initiative and congratulate him on raising this amazing amount for a very deserving local charity."
