Taking to the streets in thanks for child's survival

articlemain

A Hendon couple whose baby daughter survived a rare disease with a 98 per cent mortality rate are going on the longest of walks to raise awareness and funding.

Starting on Sunday, Rochelle and Stephen Rosenthal will embark on a 79-mile circular route of the capital over a 72-hour period.

When Mrs Rosenthal was pregnant last year, the couple were told that a cancerous mole was growing alongside their child.

The condition, known as Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, or a molar pregnancy, is fatal in virtually all 1,000 UK cases every year. But as Mr Rosenthal put it, "we got away with it" and their daughter, Eden, is happy and healthy.

Mr Rosenthal, head of social media at Google, said that having been so lucky, he and his doctor wife felt they needed to give something back.

The couple have been touched by the generosity of sponsors and have already raised well over £6,000.

"People we've been friends with for years told us they've lost a child through this. If it helps others to talk, that's almost as valuable as raising the money."
