Revamped in Liverpool

articlemain

A major refurbishment of Merseyside Jewish Community Care's Shifrin House was celebrated at the reopening ceremony.

It was the fulfilment of "a dream to create something special for our community", guests were told by Howard Winik, the MJCC president.

The renovated premises "will secure the welfare needs of the people we look after for decades to come and will help people to lead better and more fulfilling lives in a bright, safe and comfortable environment".

Mr Winik added that the project signalled to Liverpool Jews that "whatever their needs, MJCC is here for them.

"We can help them maintain their independence within the culture and traditions of their faith."

Thanking the Shifrin family for their generosity, chief executive Lisa Dolan also highlighted the contribution of MJCC's 280 volunteers.

Rabbi Dan Lieberman affixed the final mezuzah to the premises and a commemorative plaque was unveiled by Dame Lorna Muirhead, Lord Lieutenant of Liverpool.
