After walking more than 100 miles over six days through some of the stormiest weather London has seen for a while, Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg and his trusty dog Mitzpah arrived home in Finchley last week, having raised nearly £60,000.

In the course of the walk, Rabbi Wittenberg, minister of New North London Synagogue, met people from 28 organisations, including the House of Commons, the Neasden Temple and the North London Hospice. He also he spent time with residents at Fairacres, the sheltered-housing complex with which the NNLS community has had strong links for many years.

Rabbi Wittenberg said that he was “truly inspired by the work that each of the organisations I visited are doing. I learnt a huge amount on this walk, and hope to bring back some of what I learnt into my community’s involvement in tikkun olam [social justice].”

The money raised will go towards NNLS’s new building project, as well as a number of charities Rabbi Wittenberg and Mitzpah visited en route.
