Born on February 29, 1916, north Londoner Minnie Allsuch was able to celebrate her 100th birthday on the correct date. Mrs Allsuch, who lives in Winchmore Hill, maintains an independent lifestyle and was dancing at her birthday party.

Among celebratory events was one at Jewish Care's Connect@ centre in Southgate for older people who are young at heart, where Mrs Allsuch is a long-time member. " I'm pleased to turn 100, healthy and happy with my family and friends around me," she said. Her son, Nigel, "can't believe her energy, I don't know where she gets it from."
