For a third successive week, Edgware ward has recorded the highest rate of Covid infections in Barnet, the London borough with the largest Jewish population.

In the final week of October, 555.4 per 100,000 tested positive for Covid in Edgware, followed by Golders Green (545.2). Hendon had the borough’s fourth highest ward rate with 447.2.

Figures for the three wards were considerably higher than the borough average (360) and for London as a whole (261).

During the previous week, Edgware’s rate had soared to 825.1 per 100,000, followed by Golders Green (777) and Hendon (720.8).

Meanwhile, deaths from coronavirus within the Jewish community since the outbreak of the pandemic had climbed to 941 shortly before the end of October, according to figures from Jewish burial societies collated by the Board of Deputies.

This represented an increase of four deaths from the previous week.
