Former Board of Deputies vice-president Edwin Shuker is set to resume the role later this month, filling the vacancy left by the sudden resignation of JNF UK representative Gary Mond.
Mr Shuker is the sole candidate to replace Mr Mond, who quit last month after the Board announced it was investigating historic comments he made about Islam on social media.
The Iraqi-born Mr Shuker, who stepped down as vice-president at the end of the previous triennial last May, was the Board’s first honorary officer from a Mizrahi background.
He said many colleagues had urged him to “step in and bring much needed stability and harmony” to the organisation.
Mr Mond, who chaired the communities and education division of the Board, had been senior vice-president as the candidate who polled most votes in the 2021 election. That title has now been assumed by David Mendoza-Wolfson, chair of the international division.
The third vice-president is Amanda Bowman, who chairs the defence division.
