Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis has told survivors that he took inspiration from “how you have led your lives after all that you have gone through”.
Visiting Jewish Care’s Holocaust Survivors’ Centre in Hendon on Tuesday, Rabbi Mirvis was struck by “the laughter and joy that goes with the activities here”.
He told members: “You have not only achieved amazing things in your own lives but have made a positive contribution across the world. It is fitting that these incredible achievements have been recognised recently with honours awarded by the Queen.”
Rabbi Mirvis also answered questions on topics including his recent visit to India, interfaith relations, education and antisemitism.
He was presented with a collection of postcards made by the centre’s art group.
HSC member Miriam Freedman said “it was very interesting to talk to him and he spoke from the heart”.
