Audiences are inspired by 'Life' and death issues

articlemain

A Jewish Music Institute-commissioned piece inspired by poems and drawings by children in Theresien-stadt concentration camp has been on tour around the Holocaust Memorial Day period.

Drawing Life, by composer Jocelyn Pook and director Emma Bernard, played to audiences in Nottingham, Warwick and London. An excerpt was performed on BBC's Newsnight and Ms Pook and Ms Bernard were interviewed about the work on Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

JMI joint president Lady Solti considered the work important as "it is not only the story of the Jews in the Holocaust but a reminder to us all to fight bigotry and prejudice. It is a beautiful and inspiring play which makes audiences both weep and reflect."

Maureen Lipman said it was "intensely moving and has haunted my thoughts ever since I saw it".
