Coldplay at bay after backing Palestine single

articlemain

Anti-Israel activists bombarded Coldplay's official Facebook page with messages of Palestinian solidarity this week after the British band backed the musicians behind a song about Israeli "injustice" and human rights abuses.

On Wednesday the band alerted fans to the Freedom for Palestine single and posted a link to its website.

The track features members of the British band Faithless and other groups, including the London Community Gospel Choir. It is endorsed by groups including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Jews for Justice for Palestinians and the Stop the War Coalition.

Within hours, Coldplay's post had attracted more than 2,000 comments, many of which were critical of Israel.

Fans posted comments including "Zionism is racism" and "Israel is an apartheid state". Others called on the band to boycott Israel.

But Israeli Danit Ezra responded that her favourite band had become "one big disappointment. I suggest that you come over here and really see what it's like to live under constant threat. It's hypocrisy to live in the UK and lecture us like you have the slightest clue what it's like to live here."
