Transport for London has confirmed that a cable-car sponsorship deal with the Emirates airline has been rewritten to remove a clause which appeared to discriminate against Israel.

The original wording of the contract, for the Thames cable car in east London, made clear that TfL must have no ties to anyone the United Arab Emirates considered to be a “conflicting person”.

The new contract has removed lines relating to nationality as a reason for stopping business deals.

The move comes after London mayor Boris Johnson told TfL to amend the clause.

TfL said the alteration had been made “to avoid any confusion”.
