The Board of Deputies has appealed for vigilance after the rise in deaths from coronavirus within the Jewish community continued to slow.

According to its latest figures, 497 Jews were recorded to have died from the disease by last Friday,June 12, an increase of five from the previous week.

“We are clearly seeing a reduction in weekly numbers, but vigilance must be maintained so that numbers do not start to rise again.,” the Board said.

At the height of the pandemic in April, 79 UK Jewish deaths were recorded in an eight-day period by the Board, which bases the figure on Jewish funerals across the country.

But the weekly increases over the past three weeks have been five, eight and six.
