Labour has confirmed that an activist who sent anti-Israel and anti-Jewish tweets is no longer a member of the party.
Melanie Melvin, who was elected was women’s officer of the Brighton Kemptown Constituency Labour Party (CLP) earlier this year, left after the tweets appeared on her Twitter account.

However, a spokesperson for South East Labour Party declined to comment on whether she had been expelled or suspended.
On April 7, a message on her account drew a link between chemical attacks by Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian government and the Israeli government.
The tweet read: “Breaking: Sarin gassing was filmed by the BBC at Pinewood on the orders of Mrs May and the Israeli lobby.”
On February 3, in response to a post calling for action against the “bullying” of shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott, she tweeted that Ms Abbott should “claim Jewish ancestry then there would be action”.
