Yomtov Fashion

Our pick of the best dresses to wear this year for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

articlemain

The memory is seared into my soul. It was a warm day in late September and it was Rosh Hashanah. New year, new clothes and there I was wearing a black roll neck top, wool Burberry skirt and matching cape.

It was the enlarged bleached version of their signature check. I thought I was going to spontaneously combust from heat, scattering bits of tartan everywhere. I break out in sweat just thinking about it now.

With climatic change and the impending apocalypse, the weather is all over the place. This year, we endured the longest winter which gave way to the longest heatwave since records began in 1910.

As we are due for a leap year, Rosh Hashanah is starting earlier than usual on September 9th. It is likely to be a hot new year, and you don’t want to be wearing your exhausted summer clothes or new winter clothes just yet.

Hence the need for the in between.

Here is a range of ideas to dig into and play with. The fabrics are light, and the colours are autumnal. Layer up and layer down according to the weather, they all work with black tights and clunky heels or bare legs and pointy flats.

New year, new clothes - no sweat.
