New flights for the summer, including a Tel Aviv route, kosher meals and Guernsey's Liberation celebrations

articlemain

If you’re planning a summer escape to Cornwall this year, there’s a new alternative to driving or the train, with flights from British Airways between London Heathrow and Newquay. The new route will run from July 2 until September 7, with flights five days a week and fares from £90.

You’ll also be able to fly directly to Tel Aviv from Stansted Airport, on a new route from El Al. Operating from Sunday to Thursday, the first flight will take off on June 28 and it’s due to run until at least September 3, joining the airline’s flights from Luton and Heathrow. Return fares will start from £280.

Meanwhile Virgin Atlantic has announced the launch of new flights to Cape Town, which will start from October 25.

Flying from London Heathrow, return tickets are expected to cost from around £700 on the daily route, and are available to buy now.

Guernsey's Liberation celebrations

Guernsey is marking the 75th anniversary of its liberation from German occupying forces this year, with an island-wide festival, Heritage75, from April to October.

Visitors to the Channel Island and sister islands Herm, Sark and Alderney, will be able to join in any of the 75 heritage-themed celebrations, including tours, guided walks and exhibitions plus events aimed at families.

The island, along with Jersey, was occupied from June 1940 until 1945 and three members of Guernsey’s small Jewish population were sent to Auschwitz.
Heritage75 also aims to showcase islander’s stories as well as island history.

Kosher in the sky

If you’re flying between Tel Aviv and the US, there’s a revamped kosher menu on board United Airlines, including a child’s meal as well as kosher wines.

The options will be available on flights between Israel and Newark, San Francisco, and Dulles airport in Washington DC.

The menu will include traditional options from bagels and blintzes to rugelach, but also chicken marsala and a kale quinoa burger. There will also be kosher snacks, and a kosher child’s meal tested on the Newark and San Francisco routes.
