It's barely a year old but may have the best location on the fringe of the Old City in the 19th-century Mamilla neighbourhood.

The hotel itself is nothing if not modern. Designed by Moshe Safdie, it blends seamlessly with its environment, built with gorgeous Jerusalem stone as is the shopping centre it is attached to. Interior décor is minimalist and contemporary and filled with Herman Miller, Kartell and Cassina furnishings.

Rooms are ensuite and the white-tiled bathrooms are walled by glass so you can watch the LCD flat screen TV, yet at a touch of the button the glass frosts for privacy. It's a lovely gimmick to enjoy while soaking in the deep cascading, rectangular bath.

The king-sized beds are topped with black metal headboards that contrast with natural Jerusalem-stone walls and dark oak wood floors. However the mattress is a tad hard and the bedroom doors open outward, which can be confusing.

That aside, the environment is stylish and pleasant, its mirror wine bar tickles the palate exquisitely and the rooftop bar and restaurant makes for a delightful evening retreat with the most amazing views over the Old City, The Tower of David and Jaffa Gate.

Soon to open is their Wellbeing Spa. But its most compelling USP is the location. It is part of the Mamilla complex which includes a pedestrianised stretch of elegant shops at Alrov Mamilla Avenue, lined with artworks. From here it is just a few minutes walk to Jaffa Gate, the main entry point to the Western Wall.
