This adaptation of William Golding's book might have benefited from more of an updating than it receives. Despite a superb young cast, Timothy Sheader's production generates little of the required fear and tension. The triumph here is in Jon Bausor's design of the crashed plane from which the schoolboys emerge to try to build a society.
