Yavneh College and Hasmonean took the honours at Maccabi GB’s secondary girls school’s basketball tournament in Kenton, North West London.

Split into two age categories, the first Jewish schools tournament of 2009 featured teams from four schools.

Yavneh and Hasmonean were evenly matched in the years eight and nine competition with Hasmonean winning by virtue of scoring one extra basket. JFS finished third.

Having finished level on points in the years 10 and 11 event, a countback revealed that Immanuel College had outscored JFS and Hasmonean by 10 baskets with Immanuel second and JFS taking bronze.

Ms Bowers from host school JFS believes the tournament was a great success. She said: “The girls do not often get the chance to play competitive basketball, so it is great that Maccabi GB is able to provide an event where they can show just how talented they all are.”
