Wingate & Finchley to rename ground after co-founder Maurice Rebak

Wingate & Finchley are renaming their stadium at Summers Lane after co-founder Maurice Rebak.

A ceremony will take place on August 6 ahead of the home friendly against Aveley to commemorate the club’s former chairman, secretary and treasurer who passed away in February, aged 95. The ground will become the Maurice Rebak Stadium.

Rebak, along with his brothers Asher and David and Frank Davis, founded the football club in 1946; the aim was to combat anti-semitism which was still prevalent after WWII, with Jewish integration through sport.

Speaking in an interview in 2010 about the history of the club, he said “I was very proud to have helped found the club, which has lasted through all these years and affected the lives of so many people.

"I consider it a great achievement for four ordinary young people and it could have only been attained with the unstinting help and patience of members of their families and friends."
