Wimborne, 19, of Team on-Form, demonstrated his considerable abilities to break away from a rival on the final lap.
With lots of movement early on in the race, it was unclear the entire field had come to race hard. When the elastic finally snapped it was Wimborne and Vitus Pro Cycling’s Tim Torrie who moved away from the pack.
The two worked well together until the last lap, when Wimborne made his final move to storm to victory.
Omer Shapira of the Canyon/SRAM pro team was impressive in the three-stage Amgen Tour of California, placing eighth overall.
She finished in the main group on the first stage and fifth on stage two.
Shapira returned to Europe to join team-mate Rotem Gafinovitz in the four-stage Emakumeen Bira road race in Lurreta, Spain.
The two riders were part of the German registered Canyon/SRAM professional team and they showed well in the opening stage, with Gafinovitz taking third place in the first intermediate sprint at 11.2km.
