“It was always my goal to run for England, so I’m over the moon to have been selected,” said Viner, currently top of the England rankings for the 10K in her age category.

“Last year was my real breakthrough season, because that’s when I really started to run to the sort of standard where I felt I needed to be in order to compete at a higher level.

"This season I ran personal bests in all my events, from the 800m right up to the 10K. My next target is to run for Team GB at the European U23 cross-country championships in Holland in December.”

London Heathside’s Sara Black completed the Chicago marathon in 3:16.48, only three weeks after setting a PB in the Berlin marathon.

Black has also secured herself one of the coveted 150 overseas semi-elite places for the Tokyo marathon in March next year and qualification for the  Boston marathon the following month.

Capping his first season as an U15 competitor,  Aron Yona, 13, of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers lowered his 800m PB to 2:27.90 at the St Mary’s open meeting in Twickenham.

And SBH had a successful day at the Southern young athletes relays held at Crystal Palace, where Lia Radus’s U17 women’s team became Southern
champions and Gilad Nachshen won bronze with the U15 boys’ team.
