Vale puts Leeds Maccabi in seventh heaven

Adam Kristall praised the character of his Leeds Maccabi players as they re-ignited their MJSL title challenge with a convincing 7-1 win over Reich.

The Yorkshiremen were comprehensively beaten by Haroldeans last time out but they showed a big improvement against the strugglers.

Nick Vale’s hat-trick paved the way for the win, with Harry Landy, Rafi Kaye, Oli Abrahamson and Max Adler completing the scoring.

Leeds boss Kristall said: “It was great to bounce back, which I knew we would.”

Reich, who netted through Ben Burton, have endured a tough start to the season. Director of football Michael Gaswirth admits his players need to respond after pointing the finger at his squad’s lack of focus.

“Unfortunately when you have a squad of 30 signed on and minimum of 10 experienced players refuse to play because we have to travel to Leeds, then it doesn’t help the cause,” he said.

“From challenging for the league last season to now finding ourselves bottom with no points, we always knew it would be tough, especially rebuilding the squad with players who have never played 11-a-side before.”

Maccabi Manchester Blue edged out the Yellows 3-2 in the Brooklands derby. Ben Loynds and Jack Cook put the Blues in charge before Ben Gould and Adam Woolfstein hit back for the visitors.

Jacob Huller’s penalty miss looked to have cost the Blues but his blushes were spared when Darren Cohen fired the winner late on.

Defending champions Haroldeans were held to a surprise goalless draw by new boys Sedgley Park Celtic.

Haroldeans boss Mike Bloomberg said: “It was a competitive and hard-fought game which ended in a fair result. I was impressed with Sedgley's organisation.”
