Top seed Ashley Stokes won the Maccabi GB men’s singles title at Yavneh College in Borehamwood. He beat Maccabi stalwart Dov Katz 11-7, 12-10, 11-7 in the final.
Ranked 50 in the country, Stokes, 18, reached the final after beating Matt Spero 3-1. Katz, seeded three, upset second seed Eli Baraty, his first competitive victory over a fellow Maccabian in the semi-finals. Sally Prowen won the women’s singles final after beating Jo Radiven 3-1.
Stokes, who plays for Urban Progress, finished the event with two pieces of silverware after linking up with junior boys winner Rafi Marom to beat Katz and Spero in the men’s doubles.
Katz and Prowen won the mixed doubles competition for the eighth time after seeing off Ian Mablin and Radiven in straight sets.
Mablin conquered John Tendler 3-2 in the Veterans singles final.
Other winners were: Darren Reece (banded singles), Guy Ben-Aroya/David Green (junior boys doubles), Guy Ben-Aroya (cadet mixed singles and most promising young junior), Eli Baraty (outstanding services to table tennis).
