Stiller and Panovka boost GB charge

Team GB has named its three basketball squads competing at the 18th Maccabiah Games Chai in Israel in July.

A men’s Masters (over 40s), an Under 18 women and an Under 16 men’s team feature 35 players aged 14-62. Players of American, Israeli and South African origin feature.

The Masters team includes ex-England internationals, Sam Stiller and Steve Panovka, as well as former Israeli national league players.

The women’s and junior squad are made up predominantly of players from London. The teams have been training for the past nine months and competing in local leagues.

Marc Dinner, head of Team GB basketball said, “With 10 weeks to go, individual and team focus is stepping up another level. The competition is going to be tough but we are all enthusiastic and we want to challenge ourselves and to measure our success against other countries is a huge motivational factor.”

Under 18 Women: Avital Aarons, Camilla de Kare-Silver, Gabriella Polden, Lisa Altmann-Richer, Mya Ram, Naomi Newman, Talya Curtis, Tanya Millett, Victoria Kahn

Under 16 Men: Adam Schwartz, Andrew Abendstern, Freddie Gershinson, Harrison Sands, Jordan Saul, Mark Fox, Ori Ohayon, Tomer Doron, Zohar Jacob
