Peer given new hope

articlemain

Shahar Peer has appointed Eric Van Harpen as her new coach after winning the ITF Istanbul tournament – her first competition victory in two years.

She beat Czech Kristyna Pliskova (129) in a close fought final and rises to 119 in the WTA rankings, although the win is not enough to secure automatic qualification for the main draws at the French Open and Wimbledon.

Peer, 28, says she is determined to recapture the form which saw her ranked 11 in 2011, and she is looking forward to working with Dutchman Van Harpen, a former coach of Anna Kournikova and Conchita Martinez.

"I've decided to give myself another chance, perhaps my last, and if it doesn’t work out and I no longer have the desire for tennis, I’ll say thanks and goodbye," said Peer.
