BRADY MACCABI 3 CAMDEN PARK 2
An imposing performance from Josh Newman helped Brady secure a 3-2 victory over Camden Park at Rowley Lane today.
A brace from the central midfielder and a tidy finish from Sam Monjack saw the Reds continue their charge up the league table with third spot now firmly in their sights.
Camden started the game the brighter of the two with a couple of longrange efforts rattling the Brady bar, much to the delight of debutant goalkeeper Josh Miller who was in high spirits after an impressive 90 minutes.
Brady grew into the game, however, and strikes started to reign in on the Camden goal. Defender Ben Hildebrand, markedly baffled as to how to manoeuvre in the opposition penalty area, was unlucky to see a header drop onto the bar.
Newman, replacing Daniel Harrod who unfortunately looks set to miss the rest of the season through injury, netted his first of the game late into the first half after a blocked shot from stand-in captain Elli Dagul fell kindly to the 24-year-old who blasted the ball through a crowd of players. Whilst the strike was impressive, his celebration would have best been found on an old copy of FIFA ’97, however.
Brady, now unbeaten in their last five league games, doubled their lead shortly into the second period. Reiss Mogilner posed a threat with his wicked set-pieces all game and with Camden failing to deal with an out-swinging corner were punished as Newman again saw a shot squeeze through a crowd of players to find the corner of the goal.
Camden rallied and exposed Brady’s weakness at defending corners by pulling a headed goal back shortly after. Both teams fought tooth and nail to ensure they left with all three points, with Nathan Harrod and Josh Dagul working impressively in the centre of the park. Dagul will have been pleased to get an effectivee 90 minutes under his belt following rumours of a stomach bug just hours before kick-off.
The deciding moment came 20 minutes from times as Newman, buoyed by the arrival of his girlfriend in the stands, flicked a ball through to Monjack, who, despite playing the majority of the game with a suspected broken toe, slotted calmly past the onrushing Camden keeper to retain Brady’s two-goal advantage.
Camden managed to pull back an impressive goal late on but Dagul’s men managed to shut out any late Park threat to walk home with all three points.
A delighted Dagul told JC Sport: "It was a great team performance and win for us today. It means that we are still on course for a third placed finish so we will aim to continue our good run and win our remaining two games."
