PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND ONE

HERTSWOOD VALE 8 CLUB DE CHIGWELL 2

Vale took the lead in the 14th minute with a beautiful team goal - a quick passing move between Harry Graham and James Millet found Josh Gorb who finished just inside the box with a beautiful left-foot curling effort. It really was a thing of beauty.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 20th minute with Millet’s first of the day, heading in a brilliant Jordan Harris corner.

Keeper Adam Zaidman got in on the act for Vale's third goal – his outstanding distribution from a goal-kick forced the CDC defender under pressure, and Millet finished off with a classic one-on-one.

Millet grabbed a tidy first-hand hat-trick, after another brilliant delivery from Harris, and Harry Graham got in on the act with his second goal of the season after being played in by Gorb.

The Chigwell keeper deserves his plaudits for a fine stop from Gorb when he looked certain to score.

5-0 at half time and looking comfortable, but it would’ve been less so had it not been for an outstanding one-handed save from Zaidman as the half-time whistle went.

Vale grabbed their sixth goal, and Millet's fourth of the morning after another excellent delivery from Gorb, making it 13 goals in six matches for the CAM. It was 7-0 in the 64th minute with Graham’s second goal – another brilliant ball from Gorb found Graham, who controlled the ball on his chest before half-volleying past the Chigwell keeper.

Chigwell continued to search for what would now be consolation goals but they form an inspired Zaidman in top form. He made several top-lass saves during the match – the most notable has to be up there for save of the week. After a free-kick was given 25 yards out, the Chigwell player stepped up and hit a fine free-kick which was headed for the top bins. Zaidman few across his goal, tipping the shot onto the crossbar and over.

Chigwell grabbed two goals late on to claw back the deficit but Vale would have the last say in the match. Jordan Harris's corner was flicked on by Graham, and Vale veteran Ashley Hirschberger was there to head home with a diving header for just his secpmd goal in his record 53 Vale appearances. One for the fans to treasure.

Delighted Vale joint-manager Jacob Emanuel told JC Sport: "Fair play to Chigwell for giving it their all to the death, but it was an outstanding performance from the Vale, and on another day we could’ve scored double figures, had it been for some better finishing.

"We played some of the best football that i’ve seen in the past four seasons, and the boys really enjoyed themselves out there today. Our attention now turns to the league."

"We’re delighted to be in the 2nd round of the PM Trophy for only the 2nd time in our history. Bring on the draw!"
