MGBSFL Super Sunday Matchday 35 preview

articlemain

Most teams are already on the beach, but there are two MGBSFL matches for Danny Caro to focus on on Matchday 35 of the season in the penultimate round of fixtures as Brixton Old Boys, Oakwood B, North London Raiders C and Hendon United Sports Club B attempt to grab the headlines.

BRIXTON OLD BOYS vs OAKWOOD B
There could be a party atmosphere around Clowes on Sunday. Brixton have secured their first division status for another season, while Oakwood boss Jason Stein told me his team will look to finish their season on a high.

Robert Silverman has done well to keep Brixton afloat this term. They were locked in an almighty battle with Faithfold B, but ultimately came out on top. So there will be no pressure on them on Sunday.

Oaks boss Jason Stein was in typically upbeat mood this week and he is predicting big things from his team on Sunday.

He told JC Sport: “Morning DC, nice to see you, it's been a while. Please do watch your step. As you can see there are boxes all over the place while we pack everything away for the summer. We have a football camp moving in on Monday for six weeks. It's a terrific revenue raiser for the club and it grows our brand.

"We’re really looking forward to Sunday against Brixton. We've got one of strongest squads available since January which will hopefully mean we end the season on a high. Loads of goals is the aim.

"The second half of the season has been tough. Seven losses from 13 - even if one of those was at the hands of Raiders A - was not what we wanted after such a strong first half of the season left us in great shape at the Chanukah break. I'll use that as motivation for the summer. Already my thoughts have turned to new players, methods and plans.

"But first it's Sunday and we should celebrate. A top half finish when many said we had been over-promoted and two cup quarter-final means this has been the most successful year in Oaks B history. That's not Martinez spin, but simple fachts. Whether Ian likes it or not."

I’m predicting some heavy metal football from Oakwood for 90 minutes, and a comfortable victory.

JC team news: Centre half Dan King will captain the side in Oakwood’s final match while forwards Dan Selwyn, Dan Seligman, Rafi Bloom and Jacob Richler-Kleiman make up a strong side.

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C vs HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B
There’s little more than pride up for grabs on Sunday when Raiders C host Hendon B.

A top three finish is an excellent return for this talented NLR squad and if manager Zack Gothelf can keep them together then I can see them going on to bigger and better things next season.

L’Orange’s efforts have been rewarded with news that several players have been selected to represent Maccabi GB at the forthcoming European Maccabi Football Trophy in Spain.

Ahead of the Hendon game, NLR’s David Domb told JC Sport: “From a personal point of view, I've never beaten a Hendon team as a player, so it would be nice to finally end that hoodoo this weekend.

“They were in and around the promotion mix when we met them earlier in the season, and from what I understand ran us close in the previous meeting.

“We still have six points to play for, and six points are required.”

Adam Glekin must be scratching his head by Hendon’s slump over the second half of the season. No doubt Glekin and co will be targeting victory in their final outing to ensure they’ve won as many as they’ve lost.

Benni Sluckis will be keen to impress ahead of my announcement of the respective JC Teams of the Season, and he could capitalise on the absence of EMFT-bound Jake Yudelowitz.

But the signs all point to NLR recording their 12th win of the season.

JC team news: Jake Yudelowitz misses out with an ankle problem, but David Domb returns to the matchday squad.
Venue – Vale Farm, Ref – Steve Levy, KO – 10am

JC star man: David Domb (NLR)

DC Prediction: NLR 3 Hendon 1
