MGB Junior Football League season has been a success, says Thorne

The Maccabi GB Junior Football League (MGBJFL) ended their campaign with a scintillating Finals Day at The Hive in Edgware, which saw 14 teams end the day with a trophy to cap the 2015/2016 football season.

The annual event acts as a culmination of the League – which is set out in a non-competitive format under FA regulations – and welcomes over 500 young, Jewish male and female players in mixed teams across five age groups.

There were a number of close games throughout the day, with the teams progressing to their respective competitions following the culmination of the group stages. These were the Main Cup, Mystery Cup and Mystery Plate.

Barry Abraham, Manager of North West London Jets, who won the U10 Cup final, said: "The game was worthy of the final with two of the top teams in the under-10 league making it a very exciting and hard fought game played in the right spirit. I thought the Jets just deserved the win and would like to wish Negev good luck next season."

Elliot Cohen, manager of U7 Mystery Plate winners Hendon Utd Yellow, said: "Today was a great experience for all the young players who were delighted to have the chance to win a trophy. It has been a fantastic first season for the team in the MGBJFL."

Laurence Thorne, the League chairman, reflected: "It has been another great end to a highly successful season, in which we had the maximum number of teams competing week-on-week at our two state-of-the-art venues. And what a way to end - with a highly-successful Cup Finals and Mystery Tournament afternoon covering all five age groups.

"Our exciting partnership with Maccabi GB was highlighted today, especially where they assisted our Mystery Tournament and we look forward to a healthy relationship with them in the future.

"As my Committee begin to plan for the new 2016/2017 season ahead I wish to thank them for all the hard work they put in for the betterment of providing football in a Jewish environment to the community."
