Maccabi Masters round-up

South Mancunians and Brady A close in on leaders

articlemain

In the Maccabi Masters League Division 1, things are hotting up at the top, as both South Mancunians and Brady A closed in on the leaders North London Raiders.

South Mancs recovered from going a goal down to Faithfold’s Adam Barton to finish 5-1 winners, and move within a point of the top. Mancs’ scorers were Nick Tromans (2), Mark Powell, Barry Abraham and Darryl Ricklow.

Brady also had to come from behind to earn their points. After twice being behind to goals from EDRS’s Mark Kingston, and narrowly avoiding going 3-1 down when they saved an EDRS penalty, goals from Laurence Myers (3) and Laurence Beck gave them a 4-2 victory.

In Division 2, the comebacks continued. Pel City found themselves 3-0 up against leaders Clayhall A through goals from Spencer Brookner, Richard Chiumento and Adam Greenblatt, but eventually had to settle for a draw as two goals from Brian Deal and a free-kick from Michael Kushner pulled it back to 3-3, and saved Clayhall’s unbeaten record.

And a Robert Botkai goal and an own goal gave Temple Fortune B a 2-1 win over Ashlodge.

Masters Goal Of The Week

Darryl Ricklow (South Mancuians) - Ricklow scored his first-ever goal in Maccabi football but it was well worth the wait. Ricklow, a father-of-two and former Ebor player, had already set up one but took centre stage with a strike that Kaka would’ve been proud of. Setting off from the half way line, he stormed past 10 men (journalist licence!) before, with a piece of Glenn Hoddle-esque quick-thinking, place a sublime chip over the keeper and into the top left-hand corner.
