HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
LONDON LIONS 4 CHIPPERFIELD CORINTHIANS 1
The visit of Chipperfield had nothing riding on it as Lions had already clinched the title, which was marked by a classy guard of honour from the visiting players, but there was to be very little let up as league victory 24 out of 25 was targeted.
The early running was made by the visitors and they missed a great chance to take the lead before the home team found top gear with Adam Burchell, Josh Kennet, Adam Lipman and Andy Glynne threatening.
The opening goal came on 20 minutes when Burchell teed up defender Nick Landesberg to head home.
Chipperfield forced Jake Lewis into a smart save on to the crossbar as they continued to show they were looking to cause an upset.
After the break, Lions seemed to go up a gear and some wonderful interchange of passing between Lipman and Kennet saw the latter pull the ball back to Burchell who stroked the ball in to make it 2-0 on 55 minutes.
As the game approached the last quarter of an hour, Chipperfield pulled one back to set up the prospect of a tight finish, but man-of-the-match Austin Lipman had other ideas as twice within a minute he strode through the stretched Chipperfield defence and confidently scored a quick-fire brace to open up a comfortable margin and seal win 24 out of 25 in the league this season.
After the game, the 60-plus supporters remained to see the league trophy lifted in the team’s final league home game of 2016/17.
