The champagne is on ice at Leeds Maccabi as they took another giant step towards being crowned MJSL champions.

Leeds edged even closer to the title after their convincing 3-1 win over nearest rivals Haroldeans.

And the Yorkshire side can crack open the bubbly if fellow challengers Heaton Park fail to win when the two sides next meet for a showdown on February 1.

With such a buffer, Leeds can afford to lose at HPR and will still be odds-on to secure the championship.

Leeds boss Daniel Kristall just wants to get over the finish line and said: "It’s within our grasp now.

"We know we are nearly there but we can’t rest until the job is done.

"The aim is to remain unbeaten. Even if we lose that record, it would take something extraordinary for us to fall away at this stage. We have no intention of doing that."

Haroldeans were the latest side put to the sword as their faint title hopes were extinguished for good.

Kristall’s men marched on as Richard Black, James Landes and Mark Korn ensured there would be no way back for the Merseysiders.

Haroldeans grabbed a late consolation via Daniel Lloyd-Ellenberg.

Kristall added: "I think the scoreline flattered them and that just underlined our dominance.

"James Landes was a stand-out performer as he helped us dominate and boss the midfield. But he was not the only player to shine."
